Society and Sustainable Development

MODULE TYPE: SDG11
MODULE DESCRIPTION
This micro model aims at exploring, at first, the relationships between Society and Environment at several levels (e.g. society-environment interactions; mutual influences; social values regarding the environment) and secondly, the different social representations and practices towards sustainability. This will help to understand why some societies and social groups are more willing than others to adopt more sustainable practices and to legitimize and endorse sustainability policies. The micro-module will be developed as follows:
1. Society(ies) and Environment(s) – a brief story of a troubled relationship
2. Social environmental values and practices
3. Society(ies) and Sustainability(ies)
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this unit, students will be able to better understand the relationships between Society and Environment at several levels (e.g. society-environment interactions; mutual influences; social values regarding the environment) as well as the different social representations and practices towards the environment and sustainability.
