The Finite Element Method

MODULE TYPE: SDG11
MODULE DESCRIPTION
This course is dedicated to students having a basic background in Continuum mechanics and/or strength of materials. During this course, the students will learn theoretical aspects and applications of the finite element method to be able to analyze complex structures and assemblies under different loading and boundary conditions. The course covers linear static analysis of structures and assemblies made of links, beams, plates, shells and 3D solids. The quality of finite element models, for the treatment of industrial problems will be also investigated. The ANSYS industrial finite element software will be used for the practical classes, where a final project will be investigated by groups of 4 students.
