Global Warming, Renewables, and Decarbonization

MODULE TYPE: SDG11
MODULE DESCRIPTION
This module will cover bioethanol, biodiesel, fuels from cellulosic biomass, blue and green hydrogen including CO2 capture and storage technologies, wind and solar power, the Carbon Cycle, Direct Carbon Capture From Air, and reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide by sequestering biomass carbon.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
» Identify the major sources of energy and the sectors in which energy is used.
» Identify the magnitude and major sources of CO2 generation.
» Understand the impact, advantages, and challenges of biofuels.
» Be able to describe the major routes for CO2 capture (Post-Combustion, Pre-Combustion, and Direct Air Capture).
» Understand CO2 generation and mitigation from iron and cement manufacture
» Understand the concept of natural direct CO2 capture from air by growing biomass and removing that biomass from the Carbon Cycle by permanent secure burial in special landfills.
