Prevention of textile waste

Background
The Vallès Occidental is a region that historically has had a flourishing textile industry and therefore has a special sensitivity towars this sector.
The textile that until a few years ago was not considered a waste, in recent years and as the market has been flooded by an increasing supply and reduced prices, it has become a waste that requires special attention in the framework of a circular economy.
In the year 2025 the selective collection of textiles will be mandatory.
Production is estimated to be 21,6 k/inhabitant/year and represents 4,8 % of the family budget. It is also estimated that 40 % of the clothes in the closets are not used.
For these reasons, prior to the organization of the collection systems, the responsibility of the product or the implementation of the industry that can manage them, the prevention and composition of the materials should be emphasized so that they are easily recyclable.
The challenge
The challenge is related to the domestic consumption of textile products:
How to establish habits of consumption and closet replacement and elimination. Consumption habits will be related to economic level, gender, age, territory.
Consumption will also be analyzed establishing relationships between the cost, type of clothing and temporality.
It will be investigated what changes in terms of behavior the population is prepared to commit, by segment:
· More durable fashion
· Rental and exchange systems..
· Promote second-hand markets
· A selective collection aimed at the third sector
· Selective door-to-door collections
· Clothes marked with a recycling stamp
· Other changes
