Region Östergötland

Sustainable Cities and Communities; Climate Action; Responsible Consumption and Production; Affordable and Clean Energy

Region Östergötland is responsible for offering the residents of Östergötland healthcare of high quality. We are also responsible for providing highly specialized care in the southeastern healthcare region and nationally, within certain areas. Our mission is also to take lead in the regional development work to enhance the growth and attractiveness of Östergötland and to develop an attractive and efficient public transport system. With over 13,000 employees in 100 different professions, Region Östergötland is the region's largest employer.

Region Östergötland’s most extensive task is to offer adequate healthcare to the county’s residents. Specialist care is offered at Linköping University Hospital, Vrinnevi Hospital in Norrköping and Motala Hospital. Region Östergötlands measures of greenhouse gas emissions show that single-use plastics within health care is our biggest source. Single-use products have become a ubiquitous part of daily life and a part of our throwaway culture.

Region Östergötland has ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from single-use products by 2025. Disposable products are used to a larger extent than needed. Replacing single-use products with better alternatives and increase the recycling of single-use products is the challenge.  An important part to succeed reduce greenhouse gas emissions from single-use products is how to communicate the best choice with employees concerned.
