International Talent retention in City of Tampere

Quality Education; Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Partnerships for the Goals
Open for application

Background
The competition for talent is rapidly intensifying. Cities and regions are taking active steps to enhance their attractiveness to international talent and skilled professionals. However, locating and attracting the right talent is just half of the work, cities also need strategies for retaining international talent.

Our challenge
The City of Tampere has a strong brand image and manages to attract talents from all over the world, but face difficulties retaining them. Tampere is an attractive city of study, but only about 50% of university graduates live in the city a year after graduation. The challenge is to find appropriate methods to enhance international talent integration and identify activities, opportunities and other factors which would help talents to settle in and prosper in the longer term.

Expected impact
The goal is to understand the factors that affect the employability of international talents in the region. What would help to keep the international talents in Tampere, what kind of opportunities, activities, programs or other actions should the city or other actors provide so that these professionals could see Tampere as their future place of residence rather than just a temporary stop?

Target groups
Municipal administration, citizens, educational institutions, regional businesses
