Talent retention in City of Tampere
The competition for talent is rapidly intensifying. Cities and regions are taking active steps to enhance their attractiveness to talent and skilled professionals. However, locating and attracting the right talent is just half of the work, cities also need strategies for retaining talent.
The City of Tampere has a strong brand image and manages to attract talents from all over the world, but face difficulties retaining them. Tampere, as an attractive city of study, receives net migration from 15–19-year-olds. At the same time, Tampere is losing 25-34-year-olds starting their careers and only about 50% of university graduates live in the city a year after graduation. The challenge is to find appropriate methods to enhance talent integration and identify activities, opportunities and other factors which would help talents from this demographic to settle in and prosper in the longer term.
The goal is to understand the factors that make cities attractive and interesting places for young adults age 25-34. What would help to keep the young adults in Tampere, what kind of opportunities, activities programs or other actions should the city provide so that these young adults could see Tampere as their future place of residence rather than just a temporary stop?
